P2Culture: Getting to Know Malem Khundrakpam
Our monthly employee profiles give you a peek behind the scenes into the people behind the awesomeness that is P2Sample! We love uncovering the answers to some of these fun questions, finding out a little more about our own co-workers and sharing them with you. This month we spoke with Malem, who has been with us for a little more than three years as a Bid Manager.
What will a typical day find you doing as a Bid Manager? Not surprisingly, a lot of bidding, bidding and more bidding! I juggle this main part of my job with handling other internal communications at the same time. There’s never a dull moment.
What are you passionate about when it comes to your job?Of course, bidding is my favorite part. I like writing emails and providing a detailed picture surrounding quotes. Picking up challenging bids gives me more experience and confidence as a Bid Manager.
What kind of music do you listen to while you are working?I’m an old soul, so my musical tastes go all the way back to 60s/70s playlist – both Hindi/English. Some of my favorites are Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and the evergreen Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, R. D Burman (Bollywood). I also listen to a lot of newer, more modern songs, but always prefer the old ones when I need my quality time with music.
When I am working, I usually shift a bit to listen to acoustic music. I like the sound of it in the background while my attention and focus is on my laptop.
Do you snack while you’re working? What’s your favorite treat?
I keep a jar of mix dried fruits on my table. They actually help me as I do all the “thinking”: staring at my laptop trying to understand a lengthy email or going through unread messages on Slack. I find that those nuts and fruits are kind of like popcorn in movie theaters. Walnuts, Apricot and Black Raisins are my favorite.
What is the one thing you can’t live without daily?
I love reading – it helps me keep my mind open. I prefer reading for half an hour almost every day, mostly after my workday is complete. I can go with all types of books, both fiction and nonfiction (I do avoid horror and paranormal themes). I find a wide range of topics peak my interest.
If you could become an imaginary/fantasy creature, what would it be and why?
I would love to explore the blue world as a mermaid. The idea of mermaids have always been fascinating to me and if I could become one, I’d dive to the deepest part of the ocean and witness the beauty of the underwater world. As an added bonus, I wouldn’t have to pay a huge amount of money to dive nor worry about underwater breathing apparatus.
What would we find you doing when you have time off work?
Traveling to different places is what I love the most and for that I need a few days. If I’m taking off for more than a weekend, I make sure I’m exploring new places. On weekends, if not hanging out with friends, I sleep a lot, cook something I have been craving the whole week and turn on Netflix. Sometimes, I take weekend laziness to a new level, leave out the cooking part, and order in!
What creatures live in your home with you?
You can call my home a “mini animal shelter.” We have three dogs – Bunty, Thennoi, Moti – and two cats – Thambal, Angaubi (I’m sure the name itself made you laugh!). Thennoi is still a puppy and plays more with the two cats. He does sometimes get a nice slap from either of the cats, but that doesn’t stop him from running after them.
I reside in Imphal, a small town in the northeast region of India. It’s a land rich in culture and tradition.
What is/are your favorite thing(s) about working for P2Sample?
The level of communication we have as a company is just great! Even though most of us are working remotely, we are all connected and informed so well. I have been given the opportunity to work outside of bidding and I’m very thankful for that. More than anything, it helps me explore my own capabilities.
